The feelings and emotions you experience over the coming months and years will be unique to you. That’s part of what makes them so special. But there are certain things you can expect, anticipate, prepare for and enjoy at various stages along the way. To help you make the most of this very important time, we have prepared this resource. This guide will help you prepare for your child’s birth and your stay at Dignity Health’s Mercy Gilbert Medical Center.
Mercy Gilbert's Lund Family Birth Center offers a variety of classes and support groups to help educate and prepare expectant families. Visit our Classes and Events section for a complete listing and registration.
You and your baby will remain together as much as possible in your postpartum room after your recovery, as long as both of you are doing well. This promotes better bonding. Through the guidance of our skilled nurses and lactation consultants, you will learn to properly feed and care for your baby. If you had a healthy vaginal delivery, you can expect to take your baby home one to two days after birth.
Mercy Gilbert's skin to skin bonding program, the Golden Hours, encourages mom and dad to bond with their newborns immediately after birth. The skin to skin bonding program establishes a warm, welcoming environment to greet their newborn, help them adjust to their new environment and fosters a connection for the new family.
Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), performs standard genetic testing in newborns to identify 29 disorders. In doing so, ADHS is able to detect rare, inherited disorders in Arizona newborns and provide follow-up services to save lives and improve quality of life.
