Dignity Health Launches Program Focused on Personalizing the Patient Experience for Mothers-to-Be
SAN FRANCISCO and BOSTON – January 5, 2017 – Dignity Health is proud to announce that it has been named as one of the “150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare” for 2017 by Becker’s Hospital Review.
Dignity Health has launched a new program focused on improving the maternity experience for expectant parents by utilizing a combination of technology and services from Docent Health. The new technology platform will help navigate mothers-to-be through a personalized care experience. Both companies announced today that Dignity Health is piloting the programs at Marian Regional Medical Center and Chandler Regional Medical Center, with plans to expand across the system.
As part of the new program, Docent Health has designed and is orchestrating maternity “experience journeys.” A specially trained team is staffed on-site at the hospital to interact with patients throughout the course of their care. These “Docents” are aligned with clinical care teams and cultivate relationships with patients by noting patient preferences and concerns. This information is subsequently used to meet the individual needs of the mother-to-be as well as to develop insights to improve the experience for the broader patient population.
“We’re focused on caring for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—and on finding new ways to make the patient journey a better consumer experience. This unique blend of technology and human connection will improve the patient experience for mothers-to-be and their families,” said Rich Roth, Chief Strategic Innovation Officer at Dignity Health.
Docent Health’s technology platform was designed to identify and track specific patient information and preferences including medical history, concerns, sentiment, care goals and social support systems. By integrating this information into the patient journey, the technology can dynamically suggest highly individualized outreach to address each patient’s needs and concerns. Patient communication will include education about prenantal classes and education, birthing plans, and help engaging and educating family members during the pregnancy journey. Docent Health’s services are tailored to each patient’s preferred communication channel – digital, phone, or in-person interactions. Thus, every patient in the program becomes more engaged in their own clinical journey, whether they are a first-time parent or an experienced mother.
“This is a terrific opportunity for us to better serve the needs of mothers-to-be in our community,” said Candice Monge, Chief Nurse Executive Officer for Dignity Health’s Marian Regional Medical Center. “The Docent Health platform will provide the tools needed to deliver a consistent and personalized experience and to enable our team to focus on excellent care.”
“Typically, patients have relationships with their doctors, not the health system or hospital. With the transition to value-based care, the industry is recognizing that customer retention and loyalty are critical when it comes to delivering holistic, longitudinal treatments,” said Paul Roscoe, CEO of Docent Health. “We are thrilled to be working with Dignity Health. They’re both progressive and innovative, having long recognized the importance of patient engagement and with a proven track record in taking innovation and hardwiring it into clinical operations.”
