Cancer care built around you
We take a multifaceted approach that addresses your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs every step of the way. We’re not just managing the disease, we’re helping you overcome symptoms, side effects, and the other stressors that accompanies a cancer diagnosis.
We do this together. Your comprehensive care team includes specialists of all types, from radiation, medical, and surgical oncologists to registered nurse navigators, genetic counselors, chaplains, registered dietitians, social workers, speech pathologists, and financial counselors. Our interdisciplinary experts work together in one location to review your case during a multidisciplinary tumor board and then talk with you about your goals, preferences, concerns, values, and results. That’s the power of humankindness.
Our physicians aren’t just doctors. They’re clinical researchers – super specialists focused on their specific field of study, who have deliberately chosen to fight cancer by contributing to the science of cancer and cancer treatment research. Their dedication to eradicating cancer means they’re constantly elevating their work, pushing the boundaries of cancer care, and offering a higher level of expertise beyond the capabilities of a primary care provider. We’re grateful to have them here with us and proud to know they dedicate their lives to providing compassionate care when you need it most.
In short, we take cancer very seriously and we understand that you need more than just medicine. It’s a personal journey and we are ready to take that journey with you.
Clinical Trials: How Healthcare Gets Better
We stay at the forefront of healthcare by participating in clinical trials. Every standard treatment at any medical facility was once a clinical trial. It’s one of the best ways to discover and find new treatments, and give patients early access to the latest state-of-the-art cancer care. It’s a great way to advance your healing, and advance the science that helps you heal.
We lead oncology clinical trials right here in Arizona. Your care team will make sure to mention any clinical trials that might suit you and your specific needs.
National Network: Stronger Together
We’re proud to have some of the best and brightest physicians in our Cancer Institute. But we don’t believe in limiting our possibilities. We’re affiliated with healthcare institutions throughout the country, and we connect with physicians, specialists, and researchers across America to exchange insights, ask questions, share data, and more. This ensures that we can make every possible treatment option available to you.
When cancer affects a loved one, caregivers play a key role in the physical, emotional and day-to-day support of the patient. That’s why at Dignity Health – Cancer Institute at St. Joseph’s, we are dedicated to providing a network of resources for caregivers – from medical and home health advice, to financial planning, education and support groups that can make fighting cancer feel like a team effort.
Treatment Options:
Chemotherapy and Infusion Services
Intravenous and/or oral medication that attacks and kills cancer cells in the body.
Immunotherapy
Intravenous medication that stimulates your immune system, by helping it recognize and destroy cancer cells.
Interventional Radiology
Interventional radiology is a medical specialty in which its trained physicians perform minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat various diseases.
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
The goal of reconstructive surgery and the role of the reconstructive surgeon in cancer treatment is to rebuild, recover and restore those portions of the body affected by the disease or treatment.
Radiation Therapy
High-powered energy beams, such as X-rays, are used to kill cancer cells directly. We also have expertise in external beam radiotherapy, brachytherapy (high-dose radiation therapy), radio pharmaceuticals (radioactive iodine (I-131), radium223 (RA-223), Yttrium (Y90), and Lutathera® (LU177). These approaches spare healthy tissue and minimize the after effects of the radiation.
Surgical and Minimally Invasive Services
We offer a range of surgical approaches including minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotically-assisted surgery. These result in less bleeding, fewer complications and quicker recovery, meaning you get back to your regular activities a lot faster.
Our collaborations with the Dignity Health Medical Group St. Joseph's Center for Women’s Health, Norton Thoracic Institute, Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation and Barrow Neurological Institute offer you the top specialists in their field working together with our oncologists—providing the best possible outcome.
