We believe that immersive community engagement is a critical factor in delivering the most comprehensive and compassionate care possible to our growing communities. We know that seeing our patients in our familiar health care settings isn’t enough to address holistic health needs or address disparities. Community responsive healthcare and service to the community are important parts of both patient care and resident education.

Community health-focused opportunities

The community outreach component of our curriculum provides experiential opportunities to meet, treat, and interact with our community – where they are! All activities are designed to nurture an intrinsic understanding of the social determinants of health that affect our communities. 

We anticipate that you will find your community health interactions as among the most impactful moments in your professional formation and educational journey. We encourage active participation in established opportunities as well your contributing new ideas for new outreach opportunities.

Through regional initiatives and health partnerships, you will gain a better understanding of community health care needs and obstacles to care, health, and wellbeing. Residents with a special interest in community engagement will have the opportunity to incorporate community outreach electives into your rotational schedule.
