Equity, Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (EQuIPS)

Our novel innovative longitudinal EQuIPS curriculum, complemented by a dedicated one-month block rotation, equips our obstetrics and gynecology residents with both theoretical and practical experience in equity, quality improvement methodology, and patient safety. Residents will gain insight into social determinants of health and their impact on care within complex healthcare systems.

The curriculum emphasizes key principles such as Just Culture, psychological safety, and adverse event reporting. Residents will utilize quality improvement tools, including process map, driver diagram, cause-and-effect (Ishikawa) diagrams, and the 5 Whys, as part of the RCA2 (Root Cause Analysis and Action) methodology.

A central component of the program is the Personal Wellness Quality Improvement (PWQI) project. Residents will collect pre- and post-intervention data and present their results and findings during the Program PWQI Day at the end of the year.
