Gilbert Resident Receives DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence

GILBERT, Ariz - Dec. 12. 2018 - Gilbert resident and nurse at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, Joseph Gingo, RN, recently received the DAISY Award for providing exceptional and compassionate patient care.

As an emergency department nurse at Mercy Gilbert, Gingo is  a leader who provides personable and considerate care to A highly skilled nurse, Gingo goes above and beyond to provide for the patient’s overall well-being – helping to heal the root of the problem, not just the symptoms. His patients leave the hospital feeling like they have made a friend for life, and frequently seek out the opportunity to share what individual, dedicated and empathetic care they received.

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is part of The DAISY (D)iseases Attacking the Immune System Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses make every day.

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation, based in Glen Ellen, Calif., was established by Mark Barnes and his family in memory of his son Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (IT)P, a little-known autoimmune disease. The nursing care Patrick and his family received while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and families.

“Nurses play a special role in patient care, and it’s very important to us that our nurses know the exceptional work they deliver each day is highly valued,” says Mark Slyter, president and CEO of Dignity Health Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers. “With this award, The DAISY Foundation has provided hospitals from around the world another way to do that. We are proud to be among the hospital systems participating in The DAISY Award program.”
