Robert GarciaRobert Garcia, MD, is the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs for Creighton University School of Medicine, Phoenix Regional Campus and a physician in the Family Medicine Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. He is board certified in Geriatric Medicine as well as Family Medicine.

Over the past 25 years, Dr. Garcia has taught and mentored hundreds of medical students and residents. He has been recognized as Teacher of the Year 8 times by St. Joseph’s Family Medicine residents and as the outstanding teacher in ambulatory care by the Creighton University School of Medicine medical students in 2015.  In 2007, he received the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians Thomas Johnson Award for Career Contributions to Family Medicine Education.  

In 2009, Dr. Garcia received the Leo B. Hart Humanitarian Award from the University of Arizona Alumni Association in recognition of his role in creating the university’s “Commitment to Underserved People at University of Arizona” curriculum, which focuses on teaching medical students about underserved populations, which is now a well-established part of the medical school curriculum at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

Dr. Garcia is past president of the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians and also a former national delegate for the American Academy of Family Physicians. He has been recognized 5 times by Phoenix Magazine as one of the top physicians (T)op Docs in Family Medicine, in Phoenix.                                 

In 2013 Dr. Garcia was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for demonstrated excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service. That year the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, University of Arizona created the “Dr. Robert Garcia Scholarship,” in honor of his career contributions to student physician mentoring.

Dr. Garcia was honored by the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians, as the 2014 Arizona Academy of Family Physicians Family Physician of the Year.

In 2015 Dr. Garcia received The Leonard Tow Humanism In Medicine Award from Creighton University School of Medicine in Recognition of Exemplary Compassion, Competence and Respect in the Delivery of Care.
