Robotic Surgery - da Vinci Surgery
Several complex surgical procedures, such as hysterectomy and mitral valve repair, can now be performed without open surgery using the da Vinci Surgical System, a sophisticated, minimally invasive robotic platform.
Center of Excellence
St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center is proud to be an accredited SRC Center of Excellence in robotic surgery. Earning SRC’s robotic accreditation signifies our ability to deliver the safest and highest-quality care to our patient. Our commitment to this process has focused our team on exceeding clinical benchmarks and guidelines. Learn More.
Benefits of the da Vinci Surgical Robot
Using da Vinci, traditional open surgery can be accomplished endoscopically , with smaller incisions. This minimally invasive surgery offers patients multiple benefits, including:
- Shorter hospital stay
- Less pain and scarring
- Less risk of infection
- Less blood loss and fewer transfusions
- Faster recovery
- Quicker return to normal activities
Robotic Treatment Options
St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center offers robotic-assisted, minimally invasive procedures, including:
- Colon resections
- Hernia repair
- Hysterectomy
- Uterine fibroid removal
- Heller Myotomy
- Lobectomies
- Nissen Fundoplication
- Esophagectomy
- Mediastinal Tumor Removals
- Pneumonectomy
- Gallbladder removal
- Prostatectomy
- Kidney procedures
Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery
The da Vinci device has robotic arms that hold endoscopic cameras and surgical tools. While a surgeon makes the initial incisions, the robotic arms are used to perform the procedure. The surgeon receives 3D images from the endoscopic cameras and directs the motion of the robot using handheld controllers.
St. Joseph’s now features the Si da Vinci Surgical System, the newest and most advanced model, which features:
- A dual console, allowing two surgeons to work simultaneously
- High-resolution 3D vision
- Integration with other audio/visual technologies in the operating room
- Enhanced vascular and lymphatic mapping
