Sir Norman Melancon, MD (he/him/his)
Director of Behavioral Health Curriculum
Dr. Melancon serves as the Director of Behavioral Health Curriculum for the FMRP. He develops the psychiatry and psychotherapy longitudinal curriculum, electives, and is a co-director for the Community Medicine and Behavioral Health required rotation.
Dr. Melancon earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth where he played varsity football and served as a Class Marshal, and he attended Vanderbilt for medical school where he was class president. He trained at UCLA for his psychiatry residency where he served in leadership roles as the chief resident in several areas in the psychiatry department: Women’s Mental Health Clinic at the VA, UCLA Informatics, and the UCLA Asylum Clinic. He also completed the UCLA Resident Informaticist Program.
Before joining the core faculty, Dr. Melancon served as the Chief of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. He additionally has a private practice where he primarily focuses on psychodynamic psychotherapy & CBT, OCD and anxiety management, sports psychiatry, and ADHD treatment. He spends most of his recreational time riding his bike, training in the gym, reading space science fiction, attempting to do yoga, and fighting the urge to be productive.
