Dignity Health Hospitals Across California Achieve Top 'A' Safety Grades from The Leapfrog Group

Posted in:

California, November 15, 2024 – The Leapfrog Group, a national patient ratings program, announced today that 19 Dignity Health hospitals in California have earned an  “A” Hospital Safety Grade recognizing Dignity Health’s strong commitment to patient safety.

This national distinction recognizes the hospitals’ achievements in protecting patients from harm and providing safe healthcare. Leapfrog assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and other harm to patients in their care.

“This prestigious recognition, awarded to fewer than one-third of hospitals nationwide, reflects our steadfast commitment to providing safe, high-quality, and equitable care," says Julie J. Sprengel, California President, CommonSpirit Health, the parent company of Dignity Health. "We are especially proud to have expanded the number of our hospitals in California receiving Leapfrog’s highest safety grade, which demonstrates our ongoing dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of every patient who comes to us for care."

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries. It is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring.

“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for Dignity Health hospitals in California,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your communities should be proud.”
