Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a special unit with the equipment needed to care for premature or seriously ill newborns.
Licensed since 1986, Bakersfield Memorial’s NICU is fully approved by California Children's Services. It is directed by a board-certified pediatrician with subspecialty certification in neonatal medicine, and staffed by neonatologists and nurses with specialty training.
Level II NICU
The 31-bed, Level II NICU is able to provide comprehensive care for infants who are born before 32 weeks of gestation, weigh less than 1500 grams, and/or infants born with a critical illness. We provide a full range of respiratory support that may include conventional ventilation and/or high-frequency ventilation. Infants with congenital heart defects, and those who require major surgery are referred to Level III centers.
