Mercy Hospital Completes First Surgery with New Da Vinci Xi
BAKERSFIELD, CA – December 7, 2017 – Dignity Health – Mercy Hospitals successfully completed its first surgical procedure utilizing its new DaVinci Xi robotic surgical equipment, the most advanced system available in the market. The patient, an 82 year old male with colorectal cancer, was treated by the surgeon through a minimally-invasive procedure afforded by this new technology. The DaVinci Xi is the latest equipment installed in the new S.A. Camp Companies Robotic Surgical Center at Mercy Hospital.
Thanks to the generous donation from S.A. Camp Companies, The S.A. Camp Companies Robotic Surgery Center at Mercy Hospital, home to the Da Vinci Xi will benefit our community greatly, establishing Mercy Hospital as a Regional Center of Excellence for Gynecologic Oncology as well as other oncological surgeries, ensuring local patients will be diagnosed, treated and recover close to home. The benefits of laparoscopic surgery versus open surgery to local cancer patients include:
- Shorter surgical time (40 minutes versus 4 hours)
- Shorter recovery time (1 day versus 2 weeks)
- Greater access to specialists locally, including 3 new highly skilled physicians
The S.A. Camp Companies Robotic Surgery Center is the latest addition of advanced cancer services provided by Mercy Hospital including the area’s only Inpatient Oncology Unit, Bakersfield’s first CT Guided Cryoablation, The Cyberknife Center, Kern County’s only Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Digital Mammography, and many more.
