Mercy Hospital Southwest and Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Earn ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grades from The Leapfrog Group

New Grade for spring 2024 is a national recognition for patient safety

BAKERSFIELD, CA - June 3, 2024 – Mercy Hospital Southwest and Memorial Hospital both earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every member of our dedicated staff at Mercy Southwest for their efforts in ensuring the well-being and safety of our patients,” said Benjamin Predum, President & CEO of Mercy Hospitals. “I am confident that our stellar staff will continue to prioritize patient safety and serve our community with the highest quality care.”

“The Memorial Hospital team is thrilled to once again be recognized as a Leapfrog A hospital. This prestigious designation is a testament to the unwavering dedication and focus of our caregivers, who consistently strive to deliver the highest quality care with compassion and kindness to our patients, families, and community,” said Ken Keller, President & CEO of Memorial Hospital.

“Everyone who works at Mercy Hospital Southwest and Memorial Hospital should be proud of this ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes complete dedication at every level, and an ironclad commitment to putting patients first. I thank hospital leadership, clinicians, staff, and volunteers for caring so deeply for its patients and their safety.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
