For Visitors
Visitor Guidelines
Our visitor guidelines are subject to change. Please view Mercy Hospital Downtown's / Mercy Hospital Southwest's most current guidelines by clicking the button below:
We understand the important role family and loved ones play in the healing process, and we encourage visitors to come when it is best for their loved one.
Family Helps with Healing
We know having family and friends present means a lot to our patients and can significantly aid in their healing process. We have the same goal ~ to get your loved one healthy! A big part of this is continuing to provide a quiet, healing environment. Please be considerate of those around you.
Although rare, there may be times when the number of family and guests may need to be limited. We thank you ahead of time for your understanding. For the safety of our patients and guests latex balloons are not allowed in the hospital. Mylar balloons are permitted.
Children
Children are welcome as they too are important members of the family. For their safety and the safety of our patients we ask that these guidelines be followed:
Please prepare the child before the visit for the hospital environment
This includes:
- Hushed voices and no running
- Keeping shoes on at all times
- Playing up off the floor
- Staying with an adult (other than the patient) at all times
Please prepare the child before the visit for the patient’s severity of illness
This includes:
- Talking about how the patient may look different than normal
- Telling the child the role of the nurses and doctors
- Talking about the equipment in the room or on the patient
- Asking the child to use hushed voices while in the rooms
Health And Safety
Be Well. Please do not visit the hospital if you have any flu symptoms, including a fever over 100 degrees, cough, sore throat, runny nose, rash or diarrhea, or if you have recently been exposed to someone with symptoms.
Wash Your Hands. Be sure to wash or sanitize your hands before and after visiting your loved one. Proper hand hygiene is the best way to reduce the spread of germs.
Partner in Care
We encourage our patients to designate a Partner in Care, a significant and trusted person, who normally provides physical and emotional support outside of the hospital. Partners in Care are encouraged to stay with the patient throughout their stay, subject to change based on current visitor guidelines.
