Dignity Health Bakersfield is dedicated to providing supportive care for every step of a woman's cancer experience. From detection and treatment, to recovery and support through our cancer patient navigator, our hospitals are home to the latest diagnostic technology and advanced surgical options. We provide patients a full range of cancer services including the area's only inpatient oncology unit and the newest radiation and chemotherapy options through our partnership with the Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center.
Getting a mammogram is still the gold standard for breast cancer detection and the American Cancer Society recommends an annual mammography screening for all healthy women beginning at age 40. Mammograms help doctors detect abnormalities and changes in breast tissue before they start to cause symptoms. Early detection and treatment of breast cancer can be lifesaving.
The Women's Imaging Center at Mercy Hospital Southwest offers digital mammography services with Computer Aided Detection technology, breast ultrasound, and stereotactic breast biopsy. Our team is made up of board-certified radiologists and registered imaging technologists. They work together to produce quality images and evaluations for our patients and their doctors.
Heart disease is the number one killer of American women. It can affect women of any age, at any time. It also affects them differently from men. Mercy and Memorial Hospitals work closely to provide educational and screening opportunities for women to encourage them to care for their hearts.
Dignity Health Mercy and Memorial Hospitals joined forces with the American Heart Association to bring Go Red Por Tu Corazón to Kern County. The American Heart Association's Go Red Por Tu Corazón celebrates the energy, passion and power of Latina women and focuses on family and cultural traditions to promote a heart-healthy lifestyle.
Mercy Hospital Downtown, Mercy Hospital Southwest, and Memorial Hospital are certified by the Joint Commission as Primary Stroke Centers.
