A Welcome Letter from our Program Director

Welcome to the Orthopaedic Surgery residency program at St. Joseph’s Medical Center/Alpine Orthopaedic Medical Group!

Our program is an ACGME-accredited five-year post-graduate training program, in affiliation with our sponsoring institution Touro University College of Medicine, with a goal of producing elite orthopaedic surgeons to serve the Central Valley.

Our mission is to not only nurture surgical skills and academic growth but also teach residents the principles of communication, professionalism, patient safety, and empathy to help them become well-rounded surgeons. We place a unique emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion in orthopaedic care to reflect the diverse needs of our patient population and community-at-large.

The basic science and clinical lecture series, clinical conferences, and other educational activities are structured to strike a balance between theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. In addition to our primary teaching site at St. Joseph’s/Alpine Orthopaedics, we have partnered with UC Davis, Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, Shriners Hospital in Sacramento and San Joaquin County Medical Center to provide comprehensive sub-specialty orthopaedic training.

You will be surrounded by outstanding faculty from all specialties with exceptional clinical skills and a strong commitment to resident education. We have a unique “preceptor model” to foster individual growth and guidance throughout your time in this program and beyond graduation into your clinical practice.

In addition, we require our residents to be involved in independent research projects with faculty mentorship to foster academic growth and stimulate a longitudinal interest in a clinical research topic.

We warmly welcome you to our institution and sincerely appreciate your interest in our program.
