How to Apply


Prospective Applicants

If you meet the requirements below and wish to apply for a Urology Residency spot for the 2025-2026 academic year, applications are accepted through ERAS and require an application through the American Urological Association Match. We accept two residents per year and have filled both positions each year.

We will begin reviewing applications September 25th, 2024. 

All interviews will be held via Zoom. Interviews will be sent out on the universal date October 25th, 2024, in accordance with SAU-AUA Match policy.

We will be offerring an in-person second look to interviewed applicants after we have submitted our rank list. As per SAU-AUA Match Policy, second-looks will not affect your rank on our list in any way and are available to propsective applicants to learn more about our program before they submit their rank lists. 

Required Materials:

  • Submission of your application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS):
  • Personal Statement
  • Current CV
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation with one from a Urology rotation 
  • Dean's Letter from US grads/ or English translated equivalent via ECFMG from international medical school graduates (IMGs)
  • Medical School Transcripts
  • USMLE or COMLEX board exam transcripts. We strongly prefer no failures in either of the board exams except under extraordinary circumstances.
  • Graduation from an approved medical school determined by using the California Medical Board's list of recognized schools
        • If graduated, must have graduated within the last two years
  • Online registration ($75) with American Urological Association Match program for signaling and rank list submission. 

International Medical Graduates (IMGs): 

In addition to the requirements listed above, IMGs must have ECFMG Certification

An ECFMG Certificate is required before you will be granted an interview. IMGs who have not yet graduated, must complete the application with the ECFMG. Interviews may be granted to IMGs without an ECFMG Certificate if they are currently enrolled in medical school and they meet the other application criteria.

Factors Important in the Resident Selection Process Include:

  • Academic qualifications
  • Dependability, responsibility, maturity, courtesy, confidence
  • Senior in medical school or graduation within last two years of application
  • Board failures
  • Leadership skills
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sense of humor and work ethic
  • US Clinical Experience
  • Applicants from the Central Valley of California will be strongly considered
