How to Volunteer
How to Volunteer
Serving from the heart, volunteering is a labor of love, uncomplicated by salaries and budgets. It is an opportunity to ‘give back’ and make new friends. Whether assisting visitors at one of three Information Desks or offering a complimentary beverage from the mobile Hospitality Cart, each task is but a symbol of our volunteers’ compassion.
Hospital volunteers serve in over 30 different areas, providing guidance at Information Desks, gifts and promoting literacy to parents of newborns, support to people coping with cancer and heart conditions, clerical/PC support in our Medical Library and other offices, and more.
Student volunteers must be at least 16 years old and able to make a minimum 6 month weekly commitment. The number of student assignments is limited. Most high school students serve in either our Gift Shop or the Main Information Desk. College student applicants interested in health care careers may find an assignment in the Emergency Department or a patient care area of interest. Some of these assignments are limited to individuals already enrolled in a nursing program.
All hospital volunteers complete criminal background and health screening, orientation, assignment-specific training and make a minimum 6 month weekly or 1 year bi-weekly commitment.
Friends of Seniors
Applicants who enjoy connecting with community seniors may find this program a good fit. Volunteers help in many ways including friendly visiting, telephone reassurance, shopping and running errands, transportation and escort to appointments, respite care, yard work or minor home repairs.
