Minimally invasive spine surgery
Much like the “GPS” in its name suggests, the ExcelsiusGPS® system assists spine surgeons in navigating each patient’s unique anatomy. The technology enables greater precision during spine procedures, from simple to complex.
How it works
On the day of the procedure, images of the spine are taken and imported into the ExcelsiusGPS® system. This step allows the surgeon to determine the correct sizing and placement of spinal implants. It is through this process that the surgeon creates a personalized treatment plan for each patient tailored to his or her own anatomy.
During the procedure itself, the surgeon guides a robotic arm to a mapped location of the spine based on this new imagery. Once there, the surgeon precisely places the implant in the intended location.
Benefits
One of the many benefits of minimally invasive spine surgery is that it allows surgeons to treat spine conditions through small incisions. By doing so, the surgeon is able to separate the muscles surrounding the spine rather than cut through them. This typically leads to shorter recovery times, shorter hospital stays, smaller scars, and less pain than traditional surgical methods.
Ready to take the next step?
It’s important to discuss the various treatment options with your physician to determine which is right for you. Here are a few questions you may consider asking your health care provider:
- Am I a candidate for minimally-invasive spine surgery with ExcelsiusGPS?
- How can I benefit from minimally-invasive spine surgery?
- What can I expect on the day of the surgery?
- What can I expect post-surgery?
