Powerful Tools for Family Caregivers

Feeling Stretched as a Caregiver?

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an educational series designed to provide you with the tools you need to take care of yourself while taking care of an adult relative or friend. You will benefit from this class whether you are helping a parent, spouse, friend, someone who lives at home, in a nursing home, or across the country.

This class will give you tools to:

  • Reduce stress
  • Communicate effectively with other family members, paid help, physicians and health care professionals
  • Take care of yourself
  • Reduce guilt, anger, and depression
  • Make tough decisions
  • Set goals and problem-solve

This Education Series includes six, 90 minute classes, held each quarter at the Marian Home Care and Hospice office:  124 South College Drive, Santa Maria.

Mary Amedeo, licensed clinical Social Worker and Family Caregiver Navigator and Tina McEvoy, RN, Marian Regional Medical Center, will be leading the classes and sharing their expertise. Interactive lessons, discussions and brainstorming will help you take the tools you choose and put them into action for your life.

Topics covered include hiring in-home help, helping memory-impaired elders, making legal and financial decisions, understanding depression, and making decisions about care placement.  You will receive The Caregiver Helpbook developed specifically for the class.

The classes and literature are offered at no cost to caregivers enrolled in the Family Caregiver Support Program, thanks to the generosity of the Santa Barbara Foundation.
