St. John’s Regional Medical Center at the Forefront of Robotic Technology in Ventura County
OXNARD, CA – (November 6, 2018) – St. John’s Regional Medical Center (SJRMC), a Dignity Health Central Coast hospital, is pleased to announce it will now be using the latest in surgical robotics with the da Vinci Xi®. The new surgical system is equipped with immersive high-definition, three-dimensional visualization, and advanced instrumentation for minimally invasive surgeries in the areas of gynecology, thoracic, urology, gynecologic oncology, and general surgery.
“Since we first introduced robotic surgery in 2012 to our suite of surgical capabilities, the demand from surgeons and patients has increased, such that we wanted to provide our communities with the most advance robotic surgical technology available today,” said Brian Tuai, MD, Medical Director of Robotic Surgery at SJRMC.
The latest robotic surgical system is the next frontier for minimally invasive surgery optimized for highly complex surgeries, which provides an enhanced, sharp, clear view of the surgical site. The da Vinci Xi® allows for the robotic instruments to have mechanical wrists that bend and rotate to simulate the surgeon’s movements, allowing them to reach more areas of the body than ever before. It also features a new overhead instrument arm architecture, which permits anatomical access from any position. In addition to, the surgical table has Bluetooth technology allowing the table and the robot to synchronize without having to reposition the patient.
“Ensuring that our hospitals are equipped with the most advanced technology is an extension of the promise made to our community to provide patients with the leading edge technology coupled with the highly skilled abilities of our physicians,” said Darren W. Lee, President and CEO, St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital and St. John’s Regional Medical Center. “Adding this latest equipment is also part of our modernization and redesign project currently underway at St. John’s Regional Medical Center,” adds Lee.
The SJRMC robotic surgical team has been performing state-of-the-art minimally invasive robotic surgery for more than five years and recently reached its 1,000 milestone case. Prior to the new robotic generation, some complex surgeries were not possible. The new da Vinci Xi® System is an expandable platform that is designed to accommodate and seamlessly integrate a range of current technologies, as well as future innovations, in areas such as imaging, advanced instruments, and anatomical access.
