St. John’s Hospitals are a Family Affair for These Proud Moms
OXNARD, CA – May 10, 2020 – On Mother’s Day, proud moms celebrate sharing employment alongside their sons and daughters at Dignity Health St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital (SJPVH) and St. John’s Regional Medical Center (SJRMC).
In the case of SJPVH, registered nurse (RN) Lori Gilbert, her commitment to caring, inspired her two daughters, Jamie Gilbert and Kaycee Seibers, to follow in her footsteps.
“Looking back on the reasons that I decided to become a registered nurse all starts with my mom,” says Jamie Gilbert about her mom. “Being a nurse can be difficult. Being a mom can be difficult. My mom has done an amazing job balancing her work and her family. She is a wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend, and RN. She has done an exceptional job in all of her roles, and I am proud to call her mom.”
“Her hard work and dedication to helping people taught me that a career doesn't have to be a ‘job’ but can be rewarding and fulfilling if you choose the right path for you,” says social worker, Kaycee Seibers about her mom. “For me, it was easy; helping people and their families is my calling.”
At SJRMC, a long-time employee and perinatal services unit clerk, Anita Carmona paved the road into health care for her son, who started as a volunteer at St. John’s and then worked in various departments, all while earning his nursing degree.
“My mom has been my hero from the beginning. During my childhood, I saw how selfless my mom was, giving her life to helping people. It has been my dream to follow in her footsteps,” says SJRMC registered nurse, Andrew Carmona, about his mom, Anita. “I chose to work at St. John’s because I witnessed first-hand the compassion my mom had for her work and patients. Her drive and moral ethics are what made me the registered nurse I am today.”
The two generations often work in different departments of the hospitals, but share an appreciation for health care and giving of themselves to care for others.
In the case of post-anesthesia care unit nurse, Imelda Raquedan, her more than three decades in health care, inspired her daughter to follow in her footsteps and become a registered nurse.
“My mom inspired me to become a nurse,” says SJPVH Critical Care Resource Nurse, Winnie Lynn Ronquillo about her mom, “When I was little, I noticed that many of my family members would ask her for medical advice, and she always knew how to take care of her family. As I grew older, I knew that’s what I wanted to do, to take care of my family and help others.”
These families share a love for caring for our community and do it alongside one another at SJRMC and SJPVH.
