St. John's Pleasant Valley Achieves "A" Rating from Leapfrog

St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital (SJPVH) and St. John's Regional Medical Center (SJRMC), Dignity Health hospitals, are pleased to share that each campus received high marks on the most recent rating report from The Leapfrog Group, which focuses on patient safety.

St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital earned an impressive “A” rating for the sixth consecutive reporting cycle. St. John’s Regional Medical Center continued its diligent efforts to deliver quality care and ensure patient safety. This strong performance earned SJRMC a “B” rating on the survey. These ratings are amongst the highest within Dignity Health and are a testament to our ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of care and compassion to the patients we serve.

The Leapfrog group, one of the nation’s leading hospital rating organizations, awards hospitals based on safety, quality of care, and value metrics. The Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single A, B, C, D, or F score, representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. 

“These publicly reported ratings empower patients and allow them to make more informed decisions about the facilities in which they receive their care based on hospital performance,” says Lee. “The community can be assured that they will receive the highest level of safe, quality health care services at SJPVH and SJRMC.” 

All data in the Hospital Safety Score are a combination of publicly available data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid and voluntarily submitted information by the hospital on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. All data are used to generate a simple letter grade from A to F. The score includes twenty-eight safety measures. Ten of the measures are process and structural measures and represent fifty percent of the score. Eighteen of the measures are outcome measures and represent the final fifty percent of the score. 

Leapfrog’s hospital safety scores are released twice a year and are calculated under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel. The ratings represent a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. See a full analysis of the data and methodology used.
