Our orthopaedic surgeons are board-certified in hip replacement surgery, knee replacement surgery, and shoulder replacement surgery and have unsurpassed expertise in both primary and more complicated surgeries.

Latest Techniques Help Restore Function Quickly
At St. John’s Hospitals, our surgeons use the latest surgical techniques to help ensure early and rapid mobility for our patients.

Arthroscopy
Arthroscopic surgery is a minimally invasive technique used to diagnose and treat joint problems. It is commonly used to reconstruct knees, elbows, wrists and shoulders. During an arthroscopic procedure, the doctor works with highly specialized instruments inserted through tiny, dime-size incisions. The doctor uses a tool called an arthroscope to see your joints and surrounding tissues. The arthroscope has a light and video camera that help your doctor navigate inside your body to repair joints or diagnose problems. Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure because it does not require any large incisions.

Anterior Hip Replacement
St. John’s is one of the only hospitals in the region that offers anterior approach hip replacement surgery. This proven technique minimizes pain and the time from surgery to recovery. We are familiar with a variety of implant materials and will thoroughly discuss which components are right for you, including partial joint replacement.

Pain Management
We offer comprehensive pain management techniques. There is scientific evidence that giving pre-medication prior to surgery can help manage pain post-operatively. Combinations of oral medications allow you to rehabilitate quickly and safely and avoids common side-effects from more commonly used intravenous medications.

Rapid Rehab
We encourage patients to start working with a physical therapist the morning after surgery. This will ease and speed recovery.

State-of-the-Art Implants
Our doctors use implants made of newer materials that have the potential to last a lifetime, minimizing the need to have additional joint replacement surgery later down the road.

Smaller Incision Surgery
Small surgical incisions are proven to preserve soft tissue and can minimize the trauma of surgery.
