Specialty services offered:
Cardiac Electrophysiology services
Electrophysiology is the cardiology specialty that diagnoses and treats problems related to the heart’s electrical system or heart rhythm malfunctions. Typically, arrhythmias are treated and controlled by medication, implanted heart devices and/or surgical procedures.
Treatments offered by Mercy’s electrophysiology team:
- Catheter Ablation: A procedure that destroys the cells causing the heart’s rhythm problems. Mercy also offers a robotic-assisted, less invasive ablation for some arrhythmia patients.
- ICD Placement: An ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) is a surgically-placed device that monitors and corrects the heart’s rhythm.
- Pacemaker Placement: A pacemaker is a surgically-placed device that keeps the heart beating at the right pace.
- Watchman Procedure: The Watchman is a minimally invasive, surgically-placed device implanted directly into the heart of a patient with atrial fibrillation, reducing the patient’s risk of stroke. This procedure is recommended for patients who cannot take blood thinners such as Warfarin for extended periods of time.

Radiation oncology treatments available
Dignity Health Medical Group radiation oncologists are leaders in the field of radiotherapy and experts in stereotactic radiosurgery. We offer a full range of advanced radiation therapy options, including:
- Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) fights cancer with a proven program that lasts days not weeks, in maximum comfort with minimal side-effects. Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT), the breakthrough 6D Robotic Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) radiation therapy of the 21st century, redefines cancer treatment using sophisticated 6D Robotic technology to target tumors with high-dose radiation while sparing healthy tissue. This power and precision greatly shorten treatment sessions and reduces complications.
- Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) is a painless, non-surgical treatment that precisely targets cancer cells while minimizing side effects. IMRT differs from 3D-CRT by varying the intensity of the radiation within each of the radiation beams.
- High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy is the temporary loading of radioactive seeds into the cavity following surgical removal of a cancerous mass. Plastic tubes called catheters are inserted into the affected area. A portion of the catheter remains outside the body and is connected to a computer-controlled High Dose Rate (HDR) machine that delivers the treatment over 5-10 minutes.
- Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) uses high-resolution, three-dimensional images to pinpoint tumor sites, adjust patient positioning for maximum accuracy and deliver radiation therapy. These capabilities take IMRT and stereotactic IMRT technologies one step further with advanced imaging for greater precision and efficiency.
