Add Some Humankindness to Your Life
LAS VEGAS, September 27, 2019 – The San Martin Campus of Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican, is currently accepting applications for adult volunteers (18+) to join its more-than 500-member volunteer corps. As southern Nevada’s only faith-based, not-for-profit hospital system, volunteers are a vital part of providing care to the Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican community. San Martin volunteers help patients, visitors, employees, and themselves.
“There is nothing more rewarding than working with people who come here by choice to fulfill a need to help others,” said Jamie Olsen, Director of Volunteer Services for Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican. “Volunteers fill our hospitals with an incredible spirit. They graciously give of their time and are happy to serve others. Their positive attitudes are evident in every department."
Volunteers perform a variety of important tasks at St. Rose Dominican hospitals, ranging from staffing hospital lobby information desks and providing support at nurse's stations, to assisting Nutrition Services on patient rounds and operating the Pet Therapy program. Volunteers frequently engage with patients and patient families, often serving as the first to greet them on arrival and the last to bid them farewell as they offer wheelchair service for discharged patients.
No previous experience is necessary. Volunteers will be trained to be goodwill ambassadors and will gain the satisfaction that comes from knowing they make a difference to patients, staff and the community. St. Rose Dominican Volunteers must be dedicated and dependable, interested in helping others, and possess a positive attitude and a willingness to deliver excellent guest service. In addition:
- Volunteers commit to working a minimum of one shift per week.
- Shifts are 3.5 hours (8:30 a.m.-noon, noon-3:30 p.m., and 3:30-7 p.m.), seven days/week.
- Volunteers are asked to fulfill a minimum 100-hour commitment.
Volunteer applicants must be in good health and be able to perform assigned tasks. Qualified applicants must complete and pass standard hospital pre-qualification procedures (drug screening, background and reference check) and will undergo medical screening by the hospital’s Employee Health Department, including lab work and TB test.
