San Martín Christmas Village

Holiday display maintains 13-year tradition of gratitude and humankindness

LAS VEGAS, December 10, 2019

What:
The San Martín Campus Christmas Village – Celebrate the season with a display of gratitude and humankindness.

Started by a donation from a grateful patient to honor the care received while in the hospital, the now 1,500-piece holiday display has become a Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican tradition at the San Martín Campus for 13 years.

When:
Now on display through January 6

Where:
Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican, San Martín Campus
8280 W. Warm Springs, Las Vegas, NV  89113

Display is located on hospital first floor, near the elevator bank

Why:
The tradition of the San Martín Christmas Village began in 2007, with a donation from the family of a grateful patient. George and Gail Tomao wanted to express their gratitude to the nurses who took such great care of George during a recent stay at San Martín. Gail Tomao, a retired nurse, recognized the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by the San Martín nursing staff. To show their appreciation, they donated more than 1,000 holiday figurines from their family collection.

Every Christmas season the collection is placed on display for the enjoyment of all. Now in its 13th year, the collection has grown and is the largest ever displayed at the hospital. Through additional donations, more than 200 new pieces have been added, bringing the collection to more than 1,500 pieces.

Visiting families and hospital staff stop to admire the glowing village, displayed on a blanket of snow against a background of a star-filled night sky. The huge collections takes a full day to set up and fills a massive three-tier platform.

The Christmas Village is on display now on the ground level of San Martín hospital near the main elevators. Visitors, staff, and the general public can enjoy it through the holiday season. It will remain on display through January 6.
