$350,000 Awarded to Six Local Non-Profit Collaborations

Dignity Health Community Health Improvement Grants support much-needed programs in our community

LAS VEGAS, January 11, 2023 – Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican, Nevada’s only faith-based, not-for-profit hospital system, recently announced it is awarding more than $350,000 in Community Health Improvement Grants to six southern Nevada non-profit collaborations. 

“The Community Grants Program is one way Dignity Health puts its mission and values into practice,” said Sister Katie McGrail, O.P., Chair of the Community Grants Committee. “We are able to work collaboratively with community partners who share our goal of serving the vulnerable and underserved. Sharing Humankindness is a big task and we can’t change the world by ourselves.”

The Dignity Health Community Grants Program continues a more-than-30-year tradition, awarding funding to local programs and organizations addressing some of the greatest health needs in our community, emphasizing prevention, engaging diverse community stakeholders, and building upon existing services in the community. 

Across Dignity Health, the Community Health Improvement Grants program has awarded $91 million to nearly 3,800 health improvement projects since 1991. Grants are funded by contributions from member hospitals and are used to deliver services, strengthen service systems, and improve the health and well-being of vulnerable and underserved populations.

Sister Katie added, “Dignity Health is proud to support those who are supporting our community and our neighbors. We are fortunate to have so many committed groups in southern Nevada working with us to address important issues, like access to care and the needs of our vulnerable seniors. We are grateful for all the applications we received and congratulate this year’s grant recipients.”

Program:  Health, Hope, and Housing
Lead Agency: Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada

• Provide comprehensive case management services to Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada apartment residents in need, connecting low-income residents, especially senior residents, with essential community services, medical care, and mental health care.

Program: JFSA Senior Transportation
Lead Agency: Jewish Family Service Agency

• Provide a variety of options to meet the unmet transportation needs of seniors/disabled adults in the Las Vegas valley, incorporating three types of transportation to meet clients’ specific needs and circumstances.

Program: LGH Programming Increased Access & Transportation
Lead Agency: Living Grace Homes, Inc.

• Increase access and transportation to services that ensure safe maternal outcomes for young women aged 14-24 in Clark County, providing stable programming, classes, and transportation to mental health, obstetric, pediatric, and other health-related appointments.

Program: Roseman Medicare Call Center
Lead Agency: Roseman University of Health Sciences

• In collaboration with Dignity Health's Medicare Assistance Program and the State of Nevada’s Aging and Disability Services Division, this project will train pharmacy and nursing student volunteers to provide free, unbiased Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved counseling to Medicare beneficiaries regarding cost effective plan selection and federal and state assistance programs.

Program: Increasing Direct Reach and Impact
Lead Agency: Southern Nevada Senior Law Program

• Provide at-risk older adults with advanced directive needs through education on the power of attorney of healthcare and assistance in completing these documents for both the social and economic benefit of our clients and the community and ensuring there is equity in the opportunity to access to the clinics by providing free transportation.

Program: Senior/Disabled Transportation and In-Home Care
Lead Agency: Lend A Hand of Boulder City

• Boulder City senior clients who are unable to transfer to/from volunteer vehicles will be provided safe and appropriate transportation to medical appointments, procedures, and necessary errands, as well as in-home care and respite for caregivers.

Dignity Health Grants awards range from $20,000 to $100,000; applicants must be a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. The Community Grants Program uses specific funding criteria to ensure that its charitable resources strategically address significant health needs in ways that demonstrate accountability for impact.
