Volunteer Areas
There are multiple areas in the hospital that we need the help of volunteers, including:
- Gift Shop
- Mercy Outpatient Information Desk
- Mercy Cancer Center
Volunteer Opportunities at Mercy Medical Center
Active Members
Volunteers at Mercy are individuals who provide a variety of services in the hospital. Active members contribute a minimum of four hours a week, attend one reorientation per year, and complete additional annual training requirements as necessary for their work assignments.
UC Merced Students:
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Mercy Medical Center in our College Volunteer Program. Listed below are our requirements to participate in the program. Please note that UC Merced students should not apply using the General Volunteer application, as it is reserved for volunteers aged 24 and older. Incomplete applications and applications submitted under the incorrect category will not be considered.
Requirements for UC Merced Student Volunteers:
Current UC Merced/Merced College Student who is at least 18 years old. Submit the completed application through school email.
Provide a copy of unofficial transcripts.
Must pass a background check. Please complete the Background Disclosure Form.
Submit a 350 word personal statement focused on your interest in volunteering and how it will help achieve your future goals to [email protected]
Submit two letters of recommendations from either a: professor, teaching assistant, supervisor, guidance counselor/advisor, mentor, residence assistant or pastor. Recommenders need to email LORs to c[email protected] with your first and last name in the subject line.
Failure to submit LORs will result in incomplete application and therefore will not be considered.
A minimum of one, four hour shift per week is required along with one academic year commitment. A minimum of 100 hour commitment per year is required.
Complete a personal interview with a Volunteer Services Coordinator.
Interviews are scheduled after all completed application materials have been received.
Mercy Medical Center Merced provides the TB screening at no charge to the volunteer, along with an annual flu shot.
Attend Volunteer Orientation as scheduled to officially begin volunteering.
You cannot start volunteering until orientation has been completed.

High School Students:
The High School Volunteer Program application window will open in January. Please apply through the designated high school volunteer process, as the General Volunteer application is not applicable to students under 24. Applications submitted under the incorrect category will not be considered.
