Dignity Health North State Provides More Than $57 Million in Patient Financial Assistance and Community Benefit Programs in FY23
REDDING, Calif. (February 13, 2023) - Through the Community Grants Program, Dignity Health North State Hospitals – Mercy Medical Center Redding, St. Elizabeth Community Hospital and Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta are able to partner with other non-profit organizations who are working to improve the health status and build a stronger more equitable future for the communities we serve. Each hospital recognized the following organizations with grants, as each leveraged the power of collaboration in their communities to offer comprehensive assistance to those in need.
Mercy Medical Center Redding (MMCR) granted $250,000 to three non-profit organizations that support Mercy’s vision and values:
- Children’s Legacy Center received funds to establish robust services, clarity within system navigation, and increase collaboration amongst entities to provide comprehensive care to children and families.
- Empire Recovery Center received funds to pilot the “Transitioning Recovery with Coaching: From Treatment to Sober Living” project to address major obstacles to successful living in the recovery community.
- FaithWorks Community Coalition received funds to launch and operate walk-in hours for homeless families and veterans to access Shasta County Coordinated Entry for assessment and connection to services.
- The Northern California Center for Family Awareness – Kids’ Turn received funds to provide nine hours of evidence-based curriculum focused on families suffering parental separation. Each workshop will serve between 50 to 70 family members through at least five separate groups. This project will serve Shasta County families and sessions will be co-led by master’s level therapists and credentialed teachers.
- Pathways to Hope for Children received funds to support Camp Hope. Youth exposed to child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault will have a dedicated Youth Champion, a weeklong camping program, monthly mentoring opportunities, daily interaction at the Anderson Teen Center and in-home case management for the entire family.
St. Elizabeth Community Hospital (SECH) granted $70,500 to two non-profit organizations:
- Family Counseling Center received funds to increase accessibility to professional counseling for Latino individuals with a Spanish speaking therapist.
- Poor and the Homeless Tehama County (PATH) received funds for their transitional care program. PATH will be available for referrals within its men’s transitional living home, Pathways, to be available for patients that are identified as homeless and are recovering from a minor illness/injury and have no place to recover.
Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta (MMCMS) granted $30,000 to two non-profit organizations:
- Great Northern Services received funds for their child nutrition program. Funds will be used to support the School-Mini Pantry and expand to additional schools in Siskiyou County.
- Siskiyou Community Resource Collaborative received funds for the Help Me Grow Siskiyou Parent Support. This project aims to provide parental support services and link families to supportive services to bolster their mental health.

Shasta provided more than $57 million during fiscal year 2023 (FY23) in patient financial assistance for those unable to afford medical necessary care, unreimbursed costs of Medi-Cal/Medicaid, community health improvement services, and other community benefits.
- Mercy Medical Center Redding: $35,704,461
- St. Elizabeth Community Hospital: $15,732,573
- Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta: $6,370,254
Dignity Health takes a comprehensive approach to improving community health, including not only inpatient, outpatient and emergency medical care, but also a range of prevention and health improvement programs delivered alongside community partners, financial grants to non-profit organizations, and investments in efforts that address the social determinants of health.
Dignity Health provides emergency medical care and medically necessary care in our hospital facilities to all patients, without regard to a patient’s financial ability to pay.
