Joy Ekezie, MD
The drive to do Pediatrics started from childhood with my love for children and seeing them healthy and happy. That simple dream led me through my 8-year medical school training at University of Nigeria, 6-year Pediatrics residency training at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria and another 3-year Pediatrics residency training at BronxCare Health System, New York.
My extensive training in Pediatrics General Practice has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to care for children and adolescents across all walks of life. I am a passionate advocate for child health and improving the standard of care of children because every child deserves to be whole – spirit, soul and body.
As a medical student and physician in Nigeria, I was involved in several medical outreaches organized by the Christian Medical and Dental Association Students, Medical Research and Humanitarian Society, Global Harvest Church, Benola Foundation and Ask the Pediatricians Foundation. Together with my husband, we established the Peter Ekezie Foundation which aims to empower young people and also provide part college/university scholarships to undergrads from less privileged backgrounds in Nigeria.
I am blessed with 3 wonderful children who daily reinforce my drive to positively impact the lives of children and families in my community. For leisure, I enjoy travelling, watching movies and reading novels. I hope to improve my swimming and keyboard skills, and to explore the beautiful outdoors of Redding California!
