During Your Stay

Having to check in to the hospital can be stressful, and we want to make it as easy as possible.

Your hospital room has been planned for efficient medical and nursing care in a safe, comfortable environment. Rooms are assigned based on your doctor's orders, the kind of medical care you need as well as room availability.

What to Bring
Please bring only the minimum essentials with you. If you are anticipating an overnight stay you may bring personal toilet articles and containers for storing health aids (eye glasses, contact lenses, hearing devices, etc.). Person articles may be stored in the drawer of your bedside table. Limit your extra clothing to a comfortable dressing gown or pajamas, a robe and slippers.

What Not To Bring
Please do not bring actual medications to the hospital unless instructed to do so by your doctor.

Due to fire and safety regulation, this hospital prohibits patients and their visitors from bringing any electrical appliances into the hospital including electrically powered radios, televisions, razors and hair dryers.

Other Information

Advance Health Care Directive Information Pamphlets
Additional information is available upon request. Simply ask your nurse to notify Social Services or Spiritual Care Services to assist you with this document. If you already have an Advance Health Care Directive, please bring a copy with you. If you would like to complete an Advance Health Care Directive contact Spiritual Services.

Interpreters
If you need an interpreter, please ask your nurse or other hospital staff. We use Cyracom Language Solutions for our language interpretation and translation services. For the hearing impaired, we use a video phone to provide assistance. All interpretive services are available at no charge.

Spiritual Care Services
The healing of the whole person physically, psychologically and spiritually is important to us. A chaplain is available to minister to any spiritual concerns you may have. Notify your nurse if you wish to talk with the chaplain. Our chapel is open to you 24 hours a day.

Telephone
All inpatient rooms are equipped with a direct dial telephone. Your family and friends may call you by dialing our main number (530) 926-6111 and asking the hospital operator to ring your room. All calls within the Northern California area are provided to our patients at no charge.

Valuables
Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta cannot assume responsibility for lost items that are not deposited in our safe. Should you arrive with items of value, please contact your nurse who will register them with the Nursing Supervisor and deposit them in our safe during your stay. If your arrival to our hospital is unexpected, we may ask that an accompanying loved one take your items of value with them for safekeeping.
