Sacramento Bee article features Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center employees who volunteer at winter shelters for the homeless
For the past few years, Mercy San Juan Medical Center has partnered with Carmichael HART (Homeless Assistance Resource Team) and Citrus Heights HART to provide minor medical care and fellowship to homeless individuals at winter sanctuaries held in local churches during the winter months.
The overnight shelters provide warm meals, clothing, and a place to sleep. Mercy San Juan nurses offer wound care, flu shots and over-the-counter medications.
Sacramento Bee Health Care Reporter Cathie Anderson interviewed Marcy Phipps, MSN, RN, TNCC, senior director of critical care and palliative care; and Margaret Cherrix, RN, manager of preoperative services; about their experiences as volunteers at the winter sanctuaries.
