Telemedicine Puts Doctor Virtually Bedside

A PBS News Hour story about telemedicine, which aired nationally on PBS affiliates across the country, including KVIE in Sacramento, featured a Mercy General Hospital stroke patient.

The stroke patient was examined remotely by Alex Nee, MD, critical care specialist for the Dignity Health Neurological Institute. In the story, the patient’s wife explained how Dr. Nee, via a telemedicine remote presence robot, spoke to her about her husband’s treatment, calling the technology, “remarkable.”

The story also featured video of Asad Chaudhary, MD, neurologist, Dignity Health Neurological Institute, demonstrating the use of a telemedicine robot by beaming in to a robot at Dignity Health’s Sequoia Hospital in the Bay Area from a control station at Mercy San Juan Medical Center.
