Residency Program Information
The Dignity Health Sacramento program (Mercy General Hospital/Mercy San Juan Medical Center) Pharmacy PGY1 Practice Residency is within a health system that includes acute care hospitals, managed care, and disease management programs. Residents will rotate through Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, Mercy General Hospital in East Sacramento and Mercy Medical Group at various locations around Sacramento. Residents will have the opportunity to practice with and be mentored by clinical pharmacists in a variety of specialty practice areas. Residents will also have the opportunity to enroll in BLS, ACLS, and PALS courses at the Dignity Health Collaborative Learning Center.

Estimated Stipend: $70,000
Number of Positions: 2, expanding to 4 positions in 2025
Required Rotations and Activities:
- Orientation - 3 weeks
- Acute Clinical Leadership – longitudinal
- Pharmacy Management – longitudinal
- Transitions of Care - 7 weeks
- Internal Medicine – 6 weeks
- Hospital Practice – 7 weeks, then 40 hours per month thereafter (every other weekend)
- Project Week - 1 week
- Critical Care - 7 weeks
- Resident Project and presentation at Western States Conference
Elective Rotations:
Electives may take place at Mercy San Juan, Mercy General or various ambulatory care clinics and will last between 6-8 weeks. The resident will select three elective rotations for the residency year. Two of the three electives must be outside of the resident's home facility. Options include:
- Cardiology
- Oncology
- Pediatrics/NICU
- Neurocritical Care/Neurology
- Emergency Medicine
- Infectious Disease/Antibiotic Stewardship
- Ambulatory Care - various clinics
- Other elective learning experiences may be developed based on resident interest and preceptor availability
