Gynecologic Cancer Diagnosis At Dignity Health Cancer Institute Of Greater Sacramento
Your doctor will begin the diagnosis by performing a thorough physical examination and asking you about your symptoms and medical history. Be sure to be honest with your doctor about what you are experiencing. Your report of symptoms will be helpful in determining a diagnosis.
The specific diagnostic procedures your doctor will order may depend on the exact type of cancer.
Diagnostic Tests For Gynecological Cancer
Diagnostic procedures your doctor may order include:
Imaging Technologies
We provide a wide range of advanced imaging technologies for detecting gynecologic cancers. Each type of scan uses a different technology, but they share the same goal: To provide your oncologist with a detailed view of the affected area. Imaging scans include:
Computed tomography (CT) scan. This is a powerful X-ray scan.
Positron emission tomography (PET) scan. PET scan uses a small amount of radioactive substance to look for evidence of cancer in the body.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan. MRI uses strong magnetic waves to produce detailed images.
Ultrasound. An ultrasound uses sound wave technology. The sound waves bounce off your internal structures to create an image. We may recommend a contrast-enhanced ultrasound, which can further highlight and define abnormalities.
