Heart Failure Monitoring
Dignity Health Heart and Vascular Institute of Greater Sacramento is home to one of the most respected heart failure treatment teams in the region. In addition to offering patients living with heart failure the Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), Dignity Health is also one of the first in the area to provide the CardioMEMS™ HF System for patients with heart failure.
What is CardioMEMS?
For those living with heart failure, changes in the pressure of blood through the pulmonary artery (PA) can indicate worsening heart failure, even before symptoms such as shortness of breath or weight gain appear. The CardioMEMS HF System features a small pressure-sensing device that is implanted directly into the pulmonary artery. It sends information about PA pressure and heart rate wirelessly to your doctor. The data provided by CardioMEMS is used by cardiologists and other physicians for more efficient and responsive heart failure management, with the goal of reducing hospitalizations.
CardioMEMS allows doctors to use the sensor information to make changes to treatment before the patient feels symptoms. The system is easy to use, with a home electronics unit that wirelessly sends data.
