How the Joimax System Works
Dignity Health is proud to offer this innovative approach to herniated disc surgery.
First Step: Access
During surgery, the patient lies either on their side or stomach. The surgeon makes a millimeter-long dorsal incision and creates a channel directly to the herniated disc. Surrounding tissue is moved aside gently without cutting. A natural opening is used to access the vertebral canal.
Second Step: Removal
The surgeon guides a special endoscope through the keyhole to the surgical field and has a bright and sharp view of all structures in the spinal canal. The herniated disc material is carefully removed with forceps and other special instruments.
Third Step: Review and Closure
The surgeon checks that the affected nerve fibers are now moving freely; only then are the instruments removed. The incision is closed with one or two stitches and a dressing. The patient is usually able to get back on their feet after a few hours. Their doctor will decide when they are fit enough to go home and resume normal activities.
