Annual Heart of the City 5K Run
“Proceeds from the event will help our non-profit hospital in its efforts to continue providing high-quality, compassionate, health care services to all in need, which has been the hallmark of the hospital since it was founded nearly 130 years ago,” said Nate Nusbaum, president of CHMC Foundation. The proceeds from this year’s event will go to purchase equipment that will benefit our smallest patients and their families in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), labor and delivery, and pediatrics units.
With 318 hospital beds and the busiest private trauma center in Los Angeles County, CHMC is the primary medical center serving the community for those who work, live, and play in downtown L.A. CHMC is located near the 110 and 10 freeways just three blocks east of Staples Center.
The Heart of the City 5K Run/Walk event is a pledge-based event and is open to participants of all ages, including those with social dogs who are welcome to join the festivities. The race will feature a doggie costume contest, music, and refreshments. Awards will also be presented to the top three finishers in all divisions for both male and female participants. In addition to the race, there will be entertainment and a race expo. The flat course starts and ends at the hospital at 1401 S. Grand Avenue, traveling up and down Grand, 11th Street, and Figueroa.
Registration fees are: $40 for adults (additional $5 day of the race); $25 for children 12 and under; a t-shirt that looks like a fun hospital scrub top is included with each registration. Fundraising incentives and prizes will be available, as well as easy-to-use tools to help you raise pledges. Go to the race website at HeartOfTheCity5K.org to read more about the event.
