Driver Preparation Program
Since 1977, the Driver Preparation Program through the Center for Rehabilitation Medicine has put people back in the driver’s seat. We provide comprehensive evaluation and training to individuals with physical, cognitive and/or perceptual disabilities, which may interfere with their ability to be a safe and independent driver. As one of only seven disabled driving programs in the greater Los Angeles area, the program uses a team of Occupational Therapists and a Driving Instructor who specialize in the evaluation of driving skills to prepare patients for safe, independent driving.
The Driver Preparation Program provides comprehensive evaluation and training to drivers with a valid license or permit and with a variety of diagnoses including the following:
- Cerebral Palsy
- Cerebral vascular accident (Stroke)
- Learning disabilities
- Multiple trauma or other orthopedic injuries
- Spinal cord injuries or lesions
- Traumatic brain injury
- Upper and lower extremity amputations
- Vision impairments
- Cognitive impairments
- Age-related conditions
Referral Process
Physicians, Rehabilitation Specialists and Insurance Case Managers may refer patients. In addition, patients may refer themselves. An evaluation cannot be initiated without the following:
- Valid driver’s license or training permit
