TeleStroke, TeleNeurology

The time required to transport a patient to a major stroke center is time that could be used to save brain function. By accessing a board-certified stroke neurologist via remote camera and wireless internet connection, rural and suburban physicians are able to begin treatment protocols in their own Emergency Departments.

Early intervention results in:

  • better patient outcomes

  • shorter length of stay

  • reduced rehabilitation needs

  • fewer lifelong disabilities

This program includes:

  • 24/7/365 on-call neurologists for on-demand consultative services

  • full neurologic video consultation lasting approximately 15 minutes (depending on severity)

  • an average time to bedside of 15 minutes or less (for emergent neurologic conditions)

Current volumes: Last 12 months, ending January 2020

  • 8,768 acute stroke consults

  • 3,686 neurology consults

  • Total = 12,544

TeleBehavioral Health

Mental illness is one of the most prevalent medical diagnoses in the world, with 1 in 5 people experiencing a recognized condition. Hospitals in both rural and urban areas are faced with limited treatment and placement options for patients due to an extreme shortage of both behavioral health providers and inpatient beds.

Psychiatry patients also have unique needs, and proper triage and timely care can be a challenge. By partnering with DHTN, you will have 24/7 access to specialists. We aim to respond to requests within 30 minutes. We believe in the highest quality care and access for behavioral health patients, regardless of their location or insurance status.

This program includes:

  • medication recommendations

  • behavioral health assessments / evaluations

  • treatment planning

  • disposition recommendations

  • assistance with capacity determinations

Current volumes: Last 12 months, ending January 2020

  • 11,045 psychiatry consults

TeleICU

DHTN’s teleICU program improves care for critically ill patients by making a board-certified intensivist available.

The program uses a Round and Respond model:

  • physicians participate in twice daily team rounds, to direct care of critically ill patients and re"evaluate and intervene when needed

  • responding as needed, 24/7, for critical care evaluations and interventions

Current volumes: Last 12 months, ending January 2020

  • 11,825 patients seen during rounds

  • 900 response events
